PREGNANCY

PREGNANCY

Pregnancy causes many changes within our bodies in a variety of ways. Those changes impact your heart, lungs, muscles, skin, metabolism, emotions, hormones, and the way you move.

If you have spoken with anyone who has been pregnant, or if you have been pregnant yourself, you are aware of the vast aches and pains that can accompany growing a baby. These may include low back pain, pelvic pain, muscle pain, ab muscle separation, and complaints of short of breath, decreased energy, swelling, and trouble sleeping. Some are “normal” due to true changing in our bodies and others are “common” since many mothers experience the sensation.

Many aches and pains as a result of the changing body can be addressed through proper treatment and modification of movement.

Let us help you through this journey!

For our pregnant clients, there are 3 options to seek care, treatment, guidance, and education for you to choose!

Option 1: Physical Therapy

  • This option is best for those seeking one-on-one rehabilitative treatment for bumps in the road with a flexible follow up schedule.

  • Birth preparation

    • A private session that is 75 minutes in length and will cover breathing techniques, labor and birth positions, and non-pharmacologic pain management all based on your personal plans for birth and comfort. Your birthing partner is welcome during this visit if you wish. At the end of the session, you will receive a personalized handout with all the covered information and preferred positions. Established clients only. Investment of $120.

    • If you are a new client looking for a private birth preparation session, you will be required to sign up as an “initial evaluation” and can add in the “notes” section that you are pregnant and wanting to focus the appointment on this. Investment of $160.

  • Possible insurance reimbursement for out of network physical therapy services (see more information on payment at our FAQ page)

Option 2: Personalized Pregnancy Program

  • Includes 4 wellness visits throughout pregnancy journey at any time as needed with the last visit scheduled as a birth preparation session.

  • Birth preparation is a session that is 75 minutes in length and will cover breathing techniques, labor and birth positions, and non-pharmacologic pain management all based on your personal plans for birth and comfort. Your birthing partner is welcome during this visit if you wish. At the end of the session, you will receive a personalized handout with all the covered information and preferred positions.

  • Self pay with up front investment of $300 - can be virtual or in person

Option 3: Community Workshop on Birth Preparation

  • Virtual Healthy Mom Series: Our workshop is offered live 3-4 times per year and dates will vary; lasting 60-minutes in length. A recording is available after the live event for 30 days. You will sign up for the live session and will be sent the recording afterwards. Investment is $40 for live or recording.

  • A semi-private class 90 minutes in length; offered at a local Pilates studio in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Class is limited to 3 pairs with birthing partner included. The education is similar to the private birth preparation session. Investment is $100 per pair.

Understanding of the birth process and postpartum healing is important for therapists who are working with women who wish to return to sports after childbirth.

POSTPARTUM

POSTPARTUM

Recovery after birth is highly individualized; based on type of birth (vaginal or Cesarean), how baby is fed (breastfeeding, bottle, combination), how you move while caring for your child, and the support system you have at home.

If this is your first, you may be at a loss on how to take care of your body when the majority of your daily focus is on the newborn’s needs. One of our specialties is helping mothers navigate through this time through education on recovery, positioning for feeding baby, proper breathing with daily movements, and progressions on returning to the activities you love.

Our individualized approach focuses on the dynamic and complex nature of you as a mother and your prescribed exercises and education will be based on local and global aspects for what your body needs.
